Karzai on track for easy victory in Afghan election
TOKYO, Japan - Interim leader Hamid Karzai (in file photo) is on track for a landslide victory in Afghanistan's landmark presidential election, early results of vote counting showed on Oct. 16. With about 100,000 votes tallied so far -- about 1.2 percent of the ballots cast nationwide -- the U.S.-backed Karzai, the election favorite, has garnered 77 percent of the vote.
