Customer pays 10.5 mil. yen for diamond-studded Hello Kitty effigy

OSAKA, Japan - Mitsukoshi Ltd. said on Nov. 24 a diamond-studded effigy (in photo) of the popular feline character Hello Kitty, which had a price tag of 10.5 million yen, has been sold to a customer at its Osaka department store. The platinum effigy of Kitty in a queen's outfit was produced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the cat brand.

Sanrio to sell 3.9 mil. yen dog house

TOKYO, Japan - A model poses with a 3.9 million yen dog house with a Kitty cushion made by Sanrio Co., known as the creator of Hello Kitty characters, in Tokyo on July 6. The dog house, which is decorated with glass crystals, will be sold during a July 24-30 promotion event at Mitsukoshi Ltd.'s flagship department store in Tokyo's Nihombashi district.

Pure gold soccer ball exhibited at Mitsukoshi's Osaka branch

OSAKA, Japan - Female shoppers look at a soccer ball made of pure gold at the Osaka branch of the department store chain operator Mitsukoshi Ltd., on March 28. Mitsukoshi exhibited the gold soccer ball, which weighs three kilograms and is 22 centimeters in diameter, the same size as the official ball for the 2002 World Cup soccer finals to be co-hosted by Japan and South Korea, to commemorate the event. The ball is priced at 20.02 million yen.
