(1)Taiwan's opposition wins parliamentary majority
TAIPEI, Taiwan - Lien Chan, chairman of the Nationalist Party (KMT) of Taiwan, claims victory with opposition parties in parliamentary polls at the KMT head office in Taipei on Dec. 11. KMT and its allies won a combined 114 seats in the 225-seat Legislative Yuan to maintain control of the unicameral chamber against 101 seats won by President Chen Shui-bian's pro-independence alliance.
