Fukuoka Gov. Aso elected as new leader of governors' body
TOKYO, Japan - Fukuoka Gov. Wataru Aso (R) shakes hands with Iwate Gov. Hiroya Masuda (L) after defeating him to be elected as the new head of the National Governors Association in the first-ever balloting for its leadership on Feb. 17. Aso, 65, won 27 votes out of a total of 47 while Masuda, 53, the only other contender, racked up 19 votes. There was one invalid vote.
