TOKYO, Japan - Three more people have been added to the list of those who may have been kidnapped by North Korean agents, a private organization investigating the abduction issue said June 27. The photo released by the Investigation Commission on Missing Japanese Probably Related to North Korea shows Shinya Matsuoka, who was only 4 years old when he went missing in March 1989 in Tokushima Prefecture.

Yokota to retire as head of abductee families' group

TOKYO, Japan - Shigeru Yokota (file photo), who heads a group of Japanese families of victims of North Korea's abductions, plans to step down from the post due to waning physical strength. Yokota, 74, became the head of the Association of the Families of Victims Kidnapped by North Korea when it was formed on March 25, 1997, and has led the campaign, together with his wife Sakie, 71, to seek the return of abductees, including their daughter Megumi, who was abducted by North Korean agents in 1977 at the age of 13.

Chimura couple told police ex-agent Sin Guang Su taught them Korean

TOKYO, Japan - Two repatriated Japanese victims of abduction by North Korea have told police that Sin Guang Su (in file photo), a former North Korean agent who is on the international wanted list, was in charge of educating them in the North, police sources said Feb. 2. Yasushi and Fukie Chimura, both 50, have said to police investigators that Sin, 76, taught them Korean and other things at a facility in North Korea.

Repatriated abductees identify 2 N. Korean agents

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows Sin Guang Su, one of two North Korean agents, who have been identified by repatriated Japanese abductees Kaoru Hasuike and Yasushi Chimura as being responsible for their abductions, investigative sources said on Dec. 30. Their testimonies have prompted the Japanese police to launch an investigation in order to obtain arrest warrants for the two agents. The other agent is a man simply known as ''Park.'' the source said.

Abduction inquiry group to air messages on radio reaching N. Korea

Japan to add missing man to list of abductees by N. Korea

TOKYO, Japan - The Japanese government said April 25 it will add Minoru Tanaka (in undated file photo), a noodle shop employee in Kobe who disappeared 1978 at the age of 28, to a list of Japanese whom it officially recognizes as having been abducted by North Korea, bringing the number of unresolved abduction victims to 11.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said Japan may bring up her case at its next talks with North Korea if it confirms that two photos smuggled out of the country are of the woman. (Kyodo)
