New York's Halloween parade pays tribute to New Orleans

NEW YORK, United States - A phoenix rises above other lanterns during the 32nd annual New York Village Halloween Parade on Oct. 1. The parade this year was unlike any other as it included for the first time Katrina evacuees and musicians affected by the hurricane that swept through and destroyed much of Louisiana, Mississippi and other Gulf states two months ago. The 2005 theme for the festivity, entitled ''Rebirth,'' saluted the rich heritage of the New Orleans Mardi Gras, as well as focusing on the spirit of revival.
