Japan delegate sees abductions as priority issue

BEIJING, China - Akitaka Saiki, deputy head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, speaks with reporters on arrival at a Beijing hotel on Nov. 2 for talks with North Korea beginning in the Chinese capital on Nov. 3. Saiki said that Tokyo's priority will be on trying to solve a dispute over the abduction of Japanese nationals by North Korean agents in the 1970s and 1980s, though it is ready to discuss whatever concerns Pyongyang has in the two countries' first governmental discussions in a year.
