Golden Week travelers pack airports, rail stations, highways in Japan
RANZAN, Japan - The right lane of the Kan-etsu Expressway bound for Gunma and Niigata prefectures are packed with cars in contrast with an almost empty Tokyo-bound lane (right) near Ranzan Parking Area in Saitama Prefecture on May 3. Major railroad stations, airports and highways across Japan were crowded with travelers heading for resorts and hometowns as congestion peaked with the start of the five-day-long Golden Week holidays.
