Award-winning movie director Shohei Imamura dies at 79
TOKYO, Japan - Shohei Imamura, a movie director who won the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or twice, speaks in an interview with Kyodo News in a photo taken in September 2001. Imamura died of cancer at a hospital in Tokyo on May 30,.aged 79. Imamura received the highest award at the Cannes festival in 1983 and 1997, becoming the fourth film director in the world to be so honored.
