Retailers to be ordered to cut shopping-bag use under revised law

TOKYO, Japan - Environment Minister Yuriko Koike expresses her appreciation after the House of Councillors enacted a revised law on June 9, enabling the government to order supermarkets and other retailers to reduce the use of shopping bags if their efforts to do so are deemed insufficient. The revised Containers and Packaging Recycling Law will go into effect next April.
