Fukuda not to run in LDP presidential election

TOKYO, Japan - Yasuo Fukuda (file photo), a Liberal Democratic Party heavyweight, told his associates on July 21 that he has decided against running in the Sept. 20 LDP presidential election, a move likely to boost Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe's chances of winning the election and becoming Japan's next prime minister.
