Tanigaki announces bid to run in LDP head poll, eyes tax hike
TOKYO, Japan - Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki (C) said July 27 he will run in the September election to choose Japan's next prime minister, vowing to restore the country's financial health with a plan to hike the consumption tax to 10 percent by the mid-2010s from the current 5 percent.
