Fukushima town sets new yakitori record

KAWAMATA, Japan - People from the town of Kawamata in Fukushima Prefecture, known for Japanese game fowl, work on what they claim to be Japan's longest yakitori on Aug. 26. They said their dish, 12 meters and 27 centimeters long, eclipsed the previous record of 11 meters and 7 cm set only on Aug. 14 by the town of Hidakagawa in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan's largest producer of the famed Bincho charcoal.

    WAKAYAMA, Japan - Town folks in Hidaka, Wakayama Prefecture -- Japan's No. 1 producer of ''Bicho'' charcoal --grill chicken on a specially built barbecue pit on April 22 and recapture what organizers claim as the world's longest grilled-chicken record: 16.46 meters of grilled chicken nuggets strewn together on a bamboo stick. Last August, Hidaka claimed a world record by cooking an 11.7-meter-long piece of grilled chicken, but the honor fell as the record was beaten by two other charcoal-producing cities.
