Ban says Abe should 'squarely' address Japan's past
NEW YORK, United States - South Koreaan Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Ban Ki Moon speaks in an interview with Kyodo News at a New York hotel on Sept. 26. Ban said he hopes new Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe would face up to his country's past in efforts to repair damage to the bilateral relations that were exacerbated by Junichiro Koizumi's repeated visits to the war-related Yasukuni Shrine. ''We sincerely hope that Prime Minister Abe will learn lessons from what has transpired in Prime Minister Koizumi's administration,'' he said.
