Lawmakers form league to preserve male-line imperial succession
TOKYO, Japan - Yoshinobu Shimamura (C), a House of Representatives member from the governing Liberal Democratic Party and former farm minister, speaks at a group of Japanese lawmakers which launched a nonpartisan league of parliamentarians on Oct. 17 to push for maintaining Japan's traditional imperial succession rules allowing only males to ascend the throne. Shimamura heads the new group.
