Sony to release Vaio note PCs targeted at businessmen in Dec.

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said Nov. 1 it will release seven types of Vaio notebook personal computers from Dec. 2, claiming that the new products are suitable for business use as they are light and strong. The Vaio Type G (in photo) weighs 900 grams and boasts high tolerance to shaking and impacts as it is made of high-intensity carbon materials, Sony said. The battery can run for between 12 and 13 hours, it said.

        TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said July 1 it will put its new Walkman NW-HD1, capable of storing up to 1,300 songs, on the Japanese market on July 10 to pave the way for global sales. Containing a 20-gigabyte hard disk, the NW-HD1 can store the equivalent of 900 compact discs and run up to 30 hours on a single charge of its battery. It can be hooked up to a personal computer to download music.

          TOKYO, Japan - Yamaha Corp. said Jan. 15 it will begin selling on March 20 an electronic organ (in handout photo) that can be connected to the Internet, becoming the first company in the world to add such functions to keyboard instruments for household use. The organs, called STAGEA, can be connected to the Internet without using personal computers, and users will be able to do such things as previewing and downloading music data, Yamaha said. Yamaha will release two types of the organs and they will be priced at 1,081,500 yen and 693,000 yen, respectively.

PSX that can function as both a PlayStation 2 game console and a DVD/HDD (hard disk drive) recorder is available in two models -- the DESR-7000 with a 250-gigabyte HDD for a suggested retail price of 99,800 yen, and the DESR-5000 with a 160-gigabyte HDD for a suggested price of 79,800 yen.

                    TOKYO, Japan - NEC Corp. plans to release a personal computer (PC) powered by a built-in fuel cell in 2004. The planned PC (photo), which is 288 millimeters by 261 mm by 40 mm, will be able to operate for five consecutive hours. Weighing 900 grams, the refillable fuel cell limits the gross weight of the PC to 2 kilograms.
