Veteran right-hander Kuwata opts to join Pirates

TOKYO, Japan - Veteran right-hander Masumi Kuwata said Dec. 18 in Tokyo he has chosen to join the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in his pursuit of a career in the major leagues. Kuwata revealed that the 38-year-old had received offers also from the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
