Tsunami warning issued for Pacific coast of Hokkaido

SAPPORO, Japan - Train passengers at the JR Sapporo Station look at the bulletin board on interrupted train schedules after a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.3 occurred in the northwestern Pacific on Jan. 13. Moderate tidal waves were observed off northern Japan but no casualties or major damages were reported.

The bullet train line is planned to begin operating in 2016 spring.
