No-frills library opens in Fukushima Prefecture
YAMATSURI, Japan - Yamatsuri, a small town in Fukushima Prefecture which has butted the national trend of city merger, opened a no-frills public library on Jan. 14 that has a collection of 36,000 books, all donated from businesses and private individuals nationwide. More than 290,000 books have been sent to the township since July last year when it announced plans to turn a local martial arts gym into a public library to be stocked solely with donated books.
