Daimaru, Matsuzakaya in merger talks, eye No. 1 dept. group

OSAKA, Japan - Daimaru Inc., Japan's fourth-largest department store operator in sales terms, and the holding firm of Matsuzakaya Co., the eighth-largest, are in talks to integrate their operations and become Japan's biggest department store group, informed sources said Feb. 17.
