2 women break all-male grip in Shimane prefectural assembly
MATSUE, Japan - Keiko Shiraishi (57), a former employee of the Shimane prefectural government, raises her arms in victory after winning a seat in the prefectural assembly election on April 8, breaking the all-male grip in the prefectural legislature for the first time in four years. The election also produced a second female assembly member, Tomoko Sumi, 52, a former Matsue city employee.
