Lake Toya resort in Hokkaido picked to host 2008 G-8 summit

SAPPORO, Japan - A photo taken on March 9, 2007 shows Lake Toya as viewed from the lobby of the Windsor Hotel Toya in the southern Hokkaido hot-spring resort of Lake Toya. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe picked the resort town on April 23 as one of sites for the summit of the Group of Eight nations in 2008.

                    SAPPORO, Japan - Hokkaido Railway Co. announced on Feb. 13 that it will operate dual-mode railway-road vehicles (photo) on temporary rail tracks to be built around Lake Toya as publicity aimed at this year's Group of Eight summit, which will be held July 7-9 at the Lake Toya resort in Hokkaido. The dual-mode vehicles can operate on railways as well as ordinary roads.
