Niigata gov't inspectors check Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant
KASHIWAZAKI, Japan - Two officials from the Niigata prefectural government (foreground) investigating earthquake-triggered problems at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant are debriefed by Akio Takahashi (C, background), director of the power plant, on July 21. A powerful earthquake that struck the Kashiwazaki area on July 16 triggered a fire and leakage of low-level radioactive water at the nuclear plant, the largest in the world with seven reactors.
