Idled shop floor at quake-stricken Riken plant in Niigata

KASHIWAZAKI, Japan - The idled shop floor at the earthquake-stricken Riken Corp. plant in Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture, in a photo taken July 19. The plant was badly damaged by the earthquake, which hit the area on July 16 and brought production at Riken, a major supplier of engine parts, to a halt. As a result, Toyota Motor Corp. and other automakers are forced to stop all domestic car production.
