LDP board gives go-ahead for Abe to remain as party leader
TOKYO, Japan - The executive board of the Liberal Democratic Party, headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (C), meets at the party's headquarters on July 30, a day after the LDP suffered a crushing defeat in the House of Councillors election. The board gave the formal go-ahead for Abe to stay on as party leader and thus prime minister. The LDP holds a majority in the lower house, which has the power to designate the prime minister.
