3,000 live in makeshift houses 2 months after Niigata quake
KASHIWAZAKI, Japan - About 3,000 people are living in 1,182 makeshift houses erected in Kashiwazaki and two neighboring towns in Niigata Prefecture after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the region on July 16. The earthquake killed 11 people, injured about 2,000, and damaged 39,000 houses, according to Niigata Prefecture figures.
