DPJ leader seeks labor support for snap lower house election
TOKYO, Japan - Democratic Party of Japan leader Ichiro Ozawa addresses a meeting of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation in Tokyo on Oct. 11, appealing to labor for support on what he characterizes as a ''final battle'' in the next House of Representatives general election. The DPJ emerged as the largest party in the House of Councillors after the upper house election last July, and the party has set its sights on capturing the reins of power by pressing the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to call a snap general election of the lower house, which has the power to appoint a government.
