Japan to provide patrol boats to Indonesia to fight piracy

TOKYO, Japan - Two Japanese coast guard patrol boats maneuver in Tokyo Bay on Oct. 15, displaying their capabilities to Indonesian diplomats and officials aboard the vessels. Japan will provide three newly built patrol boats of the same model to Indonesia, probably in November, under an official development assistance agreement reached by the two countries in 2003. The aid is part of Japan's efforts to help Indonesia fight piracy in the Malacca Strait, Japanese officials said.
