Voting gets underway in Taiwan general election
TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian waves to people after casting his ballot in Taipei on Jan. 12. Voting stations across Taiwan opened their doors to voters at 8 a.m. in a hotly contested general election that promises to reshape the self-ruled island's political landscape. At stake are 113 seats in the unicameral parliament.
