Suspicion raised over apparent inaction by destroyer before collision
YOKOSUKA, Japan - The stern section of the Japanese fishing boat Seitoku Maru is landed at the Maritime Self-Defense Force Yokosuka Base, south of Tokyo, on Feb. 21. The boat was cut completely in half in a collision with the MSDF destroyer Atago on Feb. 18. Japan Coast Guard investigators suspect that the Atago could have neglected to take action to avoid the collision when it had a sufficient margin of time as provided for under the Law for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
