Doraemon becomes Japan's anime ambassador

TOKYO, Japan - Doraemon (R), Japan's famous cartoon robotic cat, becomes the nation's first ''anime ambassador'' on March 19. Doraemon received his official assignment certificate -- along with dozens of his favorite ''dorayaki'' red bean pancakes -- from Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.

      TOKYO, Japan - U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer checks out U.S. beef at the Seiyu supermarket in Kinshicho, Tokyo on March 29 as part of a U.S. campaign to promote the sales of American beef. Seiyu, which is under the control of U.S. WalMart Stores Inc., resumed selling U.S. beef on March 29, the first major retailer in Japan to do so since the import ban was lifted last July.
