Extra gasoline tax in place since 1974 expires

TOKYO, Japan - A staffer is busy at a filling station in Tokyo April 1 as gas prices fell about 25 yen per liter the same day. Prices fell after the provisional tax rates on gasoline and other road-related items expired March 31, after the ruling and opposition camps failed to reach a breakthrough over the tax row.
