Nagano mayor appeals to protesters to rally in peaceful manner

NAGANO, Japan - Nagano Mayor Shoichi Washizawa appealed April 24 for peaceful demonstrations as protesters planned to rally April 26 against China's crackdown on rioting in Tibet near the course of the Japan leg of the Beijing Olympic torch relay in the central Japan city. The Olympic flame will arrive in Japan April 25 from Canberra and the torch relay covering 18.7 kilometers through Nagano City starts from 8:30 a.m. on April 26.
