Gas stations start raising prices, tax surcharges reinstated

TOKYO, Japan - A staffer at a Tokyo gas station changes gas prices on boards at 1:03 a.m. May 1 after a tax code bill to reinstate road-related tax surcharges took effect the same day. The Diet passed the bill after a revote in the ruling camp-controlled House of Representatives on April 30.
