U.S. carrier Kitty Hawk leaves Japan ending mission

YOKOSUKA, Japan - Seen off by well-wishers, the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk heads out of the U.S. naval base in Yokosuka, Kanagawa on May 28, ending its nearly 10-year forward-deployment mission in Japan. The 47-year-old carrier, which is expected to be decommissioned next year, will be replaced by the nuclear-powered George Washington in August.
