Bill to scrap healthcare program for elderly passes upper house
TOKYO, Japan - A bill to scrap a new healthcare insurance program for the elderly, which has been criticized for placing a harsh financial burden on the old, passes the opposition-controlled House of Councillors on June 6. But the bill is unlikely to win final Diet approval as the ruling coalition is expected to vote it down in the more powerful House of Representatives.
