1,000 more hospital beds needed for newborn intensive care
KAWAGUCHI, Japan - An obstetrician at the Kawaguchi Municipal Medical Center in Saitama Prefecture takes care of a baby at its neonatal intensive care unit. An estimate by a Japanese health ministry research team showed July 25 that Japanese medical facilities need roughly 1,000 more beds for intensive care to treat immature babies or other babies born in critical condition.
