TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Taro Aso defends on Jan. 6 his 2-trillion-yen pet project of giving people cash benefits, answering questions posed by Yukio Hatoyama, secretary general of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, at a plenary session of the House of Representatives. Whether to implement the program in the economic downturn is a controversial topic during the Diet session.
