Panasonic develops world's slimmest 50-inch plasma display panel

OSAKA, Japan - Photo shows the world's slimmest 50-inch plasma television display panel that Panasonic Corp. has developed to reduce power consumption by two-thirds to levels of liquid crystal displays. The company said it will seek to commercialize the slimmer plasma display in a year or two.

              Foxter's Hybrid Image Processing System for AI Visual Inspection

              Foxter Corporation (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture) will release in May a hybrid image processing system that combines Preferred Networks' (PFN, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) artificial intelligence (AI) visual inspection and conventional image processing methods.The company will market the system in Japan and China in cooperation with a subsidiary of the OPTEX Group, which is engaged in the manufacture of lighting for image processing, in terms of sales and service. The sales target is 200 units a year. Auto parts manufacturers and others have already begun to introduce the system on a trial basis.                   Panasonic's BQ1 Series Electronic Blackboard for Schools

                  Panasonic will increase its share of the domestic market for 60-inch and larger electronic blackboards to 30% (4,000 units) in fiscal 2008, up 10 percentage points from fiscal 2006, using 4K high-definition touch-screen LCD displays. The estimated market price is 600,000 yen (excluding consumption tax) for the 65-inch model and 1,400,000 yen for the 75-inch model. A new "comparison mode" that can display up to nine screens has been added so that multiple opinions can be shown on the display and shared in group learning. Up to four teaching materials can be displayed so that digital textbooks can be used effectively. It has acquired "Color Universal Design Certification" for its color scheme, which is distinguishable even by people with color blindness. Sharp (36%), Panasonic (25%), and NEC (16%) hold the largest share of the domestic market for commercial displays.                       Hokuriku Electric Power's "Assist Arm" robot for power distribution work

                      Hokuriku Electric Power Company has completed the development of the "Assist Arm" (photo), a robot for power distribution work, and has begun deploying it. The robot will assist in the construction work, which used to be done by two people in a high-altitude work truck, enabling the work to be done by one person. This is the first time such a robot has been used in Japan. The company plans to adopt 10 more robots, including those of group companies, by the end of fiscal year 2019. The robots will be used for the most frequent part of the power distribution work, the wire separator work. In the past, high-voltage wires were cut and the cut wires were connected to each other with a temporary equipment called a wire separator by lifting a stick-shaped tool weighing about 10 kilograms. The robot will be able to cut wires and grab objects with an arm that can move in six axes with a single control grip, saving labor.
