2nd extra budget passes lower house despite opposition protest
TOKYO, Japan - Democratic Party of Japan lawmakers leave a House of Representatives plenary session Jan. 13 in protest at a vote on a second supplementary budget for fiscal 2008, aimed at reinvigorating the economy. The DPJ is opposed to a 2 trillion yen cash handout program included in the budget, which it sees as an attempt by the ruling bloc to buy votes.
