Ex-U.S. soldier returns photo from WWII battlefield to Japanese kin

BOSTON, Massachusetts - This photo shows a letter and a photograph that belonged to a Japanese soldier from Iwoto Island, where a major battle took place in World War II, that were returned by a former U.S. soldier to Japanese relatives. Frank Hobbs, an 85-year-old former U.S. soldier living in Boston, returned the photograph and other personal belongings of Matsuji Takekawa, who died at the age of 37 in the Battle of Iwojima, as the island is more commonly known, in the Pacific Ocean, to his daughter Yoko, 64, who currently lives in New Jersey. The returned photo shows Yoko on the 100th day after her birth.
