'Battleship' island opened to public for 1st time in 35 yrs
NAGASAKI, Japan - Toshiko Kuroda, who formerly lived on Hashima Island, points to the ruin of a condominium on the island off the southwestern Japan prefecture of Nagasaki on April 22. She visited the tiny uninhabited island, nicknamed Gunkanjima (battleship island), after the city of Nagasaki allowed people to make a one-day trip there for the first time in 35 years.
