Nikkei tops 10,000 to brief 9.5-month high on economic optimism

TOKYO, Japan - An electronic stock price board in Tokyo's Yaesu business district on July 27 shows the Nikkei Stock Average at the Tokyo Stock Exchange closing at 10,088.66, its highest close since June 12. The benchmark stock index was lifted by optimism on global economic prospects and hopes for improved domestic corporate earnings.
