Lowering adult age to 18 proposed

TOKYO, Japan - Members of a subcommittee of the Legislative Council, a government advisory panel, hold a meeting on July 29 in Tokyo. They proposed lowering the adult age to 18 from 20 under the civil code if the voting age is lowered to 18. The proposal will be submitted to the justice minister if the Legislative Council approves it at its general meeting in September.
