7.4-meter statue erected to encourage voter turnout
NIIGATA, Japan - Women admire a 7.4-meter-high statue of popular Japanese singer Sachiko Kobayashi at a shopping and business complex in the city of Niigata on Aug. 20. The Niigata prefectural election commission erected the statue of the singer, who hails from the city, in June to encourage people, especially younger voters, to turn out for the Aug. 30 House of Representatives election.
