DPJ President Hatoyama elected as Japanese new prime minister
TOKYO, Japan - Yukio Hatoyama, president of the Democratic Party of Japan, is applauded after being elected as Japan's 60th prime minister during a plenary session of the House of Representatives in Tokyo on Sept. 16, 2009. Later in the day, the House of Councillors also elected Hatoyama as new prime minister to replace Taro Aso of the Liberal Democratic Party.
