World's first lacquered chess set put on sale in N.Y.
NEW YORK, United States - Contemporary designer Alexander Gelman looks at his work, the world's first lacquered chess set, in New York on Nov. 23, 2009. Three black lacquered chess tables, produced by Gelman in collaboration with Japanese artisans in Ishikawa Prefecture, were put on sale the same day at mid-town Manhattan's Fellissimo Design House for prices as high as $123,600.
