OSAKA, Japan - Reporters and photographers visit Panasonic Corp.'s new plasma display panel plant in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, on Dec. 22, 2009. Panasonic held a ceremony to mark the completion of its third Amagasaki plant, which is capable of producing the world's largest plasma display panels measuring 330 cm by 190 cm.

OSAKA, Japan - Men shave simultaneously at the Expo '70 Commemorative Park in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, on Nov. 3, 2011 at an event to set a world record for the most participants shaving at the same time, using Panasonic Corp.'s Lamdash electric shaver at multiple venues in Japan and abroad. A total of 1,981 men participated at 18 venues including the main site of the park as well as other venues in Seoul, Hong Kong and Taipei, achieving the status of a Guinness World Record.

Panasonic to scale down TV business

Author Junzo Shono dies at 88

TOKYO, Japan - Junzo Shono (in this undated file photo), an eminent author and a member of the Japan Art Academy, died of age on Sept. 21, 2009, at his home in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, people close to him said on Sept. 22. He was 88. A native of Osaka, Shono began writing novels after World War II and won the Akutagawa Award in 1955 for his book titled ''Purusaido shokei (Poolside Scene).''

Himeji Castle appears on rice field

YUMESAKI, Japan - An image of world heritage-designated Himeji Castle, created from the leaves and ears of six different rice varieties in a rice field in Yumesaki, Hyogo Prefecture, is clearly seen on Sept. 13, 2009. The castle, together with Princess Sen (L, top), granddaughter of Edo Shogunate founder Tokugawa Ieyasu, can be observed until the rice is reaped in early October. About 1,500 students and volunteers helped plant rice seedlings in June under a farmer's project in the hope of drawing tourists.
