SHIRAKAWA, Japan - Traditional thatched houses at the World Cultural Heritage site of Shirakawa-go in the central Japan prefecture of Gifu are lit up during an annual lighting up event on Jan. 23, 2010. Shirakawa-go is known for its houses constructed in the ''gassho-zukuri'' architectural style.
