Dalmatian pelican is class B protected species in China and listed as endangered on Birdlife International's Red List. There are fewer than 100 in east Asia, according to Wetlands International. Hengshui Lake National Nature Reserve, covering 283 square kilometers, has a complete wetland ecosystem. It is home to more than 150 bird species.
